EMAHSN stakeholder survey 2016

Results from a YouGov survey commissioned by NHS England to help all 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) understand progress, highlight areas of good practice and identify areas for collective development has just been published.

Over 150 people completed the survey for EMAHSN and results indicate that EMAHSN is an accessible organisation that is working to identify and spread innovation at pace and scale. The report also highlighted an increase in the value commissioners place on EMAHSN’s support.

8 health innovations to join NHS Accelerator programme

NHS England Medical Director Professor Sir Bruce Keogh along with US Digital Health expert Professor Robert Wachter reveal 8 health innovations join the NHS Innovation Accelerator at an event taking place in London to launch year two of the programme.

Last year, the programme selected 17 innovations and supported their roll out across over 380 NHS organisations, benefiting millions of NHS patients.

The East Midlands Respiratory Programme, supported by the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN) and the East Midlands Clinical Network has produced four videos to highlight the importance of inhaler technique for both healthcare professionals and patients.

New stage for Collaboratives at Patient First

The East Midlands AHSN is one of 15 AHSN Patient Safety Collaboratives playing a major role at the annual Patient First event.

The Collaboratives are hosting a new Best Practice theatre at the conference and exhibition, which takes place at London’s ExCeL on 22 and 23 November.

Patient First is attended by more than 3,400 healthcare professionals over two days for the latest insight, education, resources and networking around patient safety.

New digital wound imaging and 3D measurement system is helping Diabetic Foot Ulcer patients in Derbyshire

Podiatrist Nigel Baggaley Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust using Silhouette at Ripley HospitalA brand new digital ulcer imaging system being rolled out in Derbyshire is enabling care to be delivered closer to patients’ homes, by reducing the number of outpatient appointments taking place at The Royal Derby Hospital.

Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working in partnership with Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, have launched the system (Silhouette®, ARANZ Medical) which is enabling the accurate assessment of foot ulcers at the point of care.

This new approach means foot ulcer healing is monitored digitally and the information is shared remotely in real time with healthcare professionals to support patient care. It is possible that the tool will facilitate early action where wound healing slows down, and that such early interventions, including the treatment of infection could potentially reduce amputations.

Lincolnshire families set to benefit from a brand new online mental health family therapy service

An online clinician-led psychological family therapy service, which is proven to reduce anxiety levels by 29% and depression levels 35% is being trialled throughout Lincolnshire. 

The project, in collaboration with Healios and Lincolnshire Partnership Foundation NHS Trust (LPFT) has come about thanks to funding and support from the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN).

People affected by psychosis, as well as their families and carers have traditionally only received family intervention with the worker visiting the family.

Bid to improve health care through 'better conversation'

Health staff are being offered advice and training to change the way they talk to patients.

It follows research which shows that patients often don’t take their medications or change their lifestyle after visiting a doctor or nurse, while only about 60 per cent of patients feel they are sufficiently involved in decisions about their care.*

A set of resources has been developed as part of a ‘Better Conversation’ campaign which aims to empower patients to become more active in managing their health.
