Ex-pharma Vice President to become chair of vital national health network

Mike Hannay Aug 2016 WebA former Vice President of AstraZeneca has been appointed to a key national health role - less than a year after joining the NHS.

Professor Mike Hannay is to take up the position of Chair of the national AHSN Network, a collaborative of England’s 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs). Mike was previously the Vice-chair of the Network.

Mike’s new role will operate alongside his current position as Managing Director of the East Midlands AHSN, a post he took up in July 2016.

NHS England has confirmed its intention to relicense England’s 15 Academic Health Science Networks.

NHS England’s Board met on 21 July and considered a report from National Director of Strategy and Innovation Ian Dodge, which highlights the AHSNs’ significant impact and outlines how this can be the launch pad for an even more influential future role as the NHS ‘centrepiece for innovation’.

AHSNs to coordinate ‘innovation exchanges’

AARLogoThe government has announced a major initiative to drive the rapid uptake of health innovation – with a central role for AHSNs.

The announcement, by the Office for Life Sciences, confirms that England’s 15 AHSNs will coordinate ‘Innovation Exchanges’ to help innovative new diagnostic tools, treatments and medical technologies to reach patients faster.

England's 15 AHSNs - including the East Midlands - will share £39M to run the Innovation Exchanges over 3 years, as part of an £86M Government initiative to help introduce and spread innovations that will help patients across the NHS.

East Midlands plays host to health and care analytics showcase

June 22nd was the date of the first East Midlands Academic Health Science Network’s (EMAHSN) Business Intelligence and Analytics in the NHS and Social Care event.

Over 85 delegates attended the event at Trent Vineyard in Nottingham which included Analysts and Managers from around the East Midlands and beyond. The feedback on the day was that this was a resounding success, with attendees coming away enthused with new ideas on how data can be used to improve the care for patients.
