Funding support awarded for eight East Midlands patient and public involvement groups

PPIBursary2016 Community and voluntary groups that offer important platforms for patients and the public to shape local health services have received a funding boost from the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN).

The eight local ‘Patient and Public Involvement’ (PPI) groups have been awarded £1,500 each to help meet their essential running costs – supporting them to start or continue their vital work to promote patient, carer and public involvement in healthcare / healthcare research and delivery across the East Midlands.

NHS England Survey of EMAHSN - have your say

NHS England has launched its annual stakeholder survey of all Academic Health Science Networks, including EMAHSN.

The first survey was conducted in 2015, and many of you provided really valuable feedback which we have used to shape our work over the past year – directing our resources to support your organisation and make sure we continue to align to your priorities.

The deadline is Friday 16 September and it will take around 10-15 minutes to complete. To complete the survey about the EMAHSN click here.

£4.4 Million Awarded in Latest SBRI Healthcare Competition

SBRI Healthcare Logo rgbSix companies receive second round of funding to develop high potential innovations

SBRI Healthcare, an NHS England funded initiative to develop innovative products and services that address unmet health needs, today announced the companies that will share £4.4 million having successfully reached the next phase (Phase 2) of the clinically-led competition. Six companies will receive a second round of funding to further develop their products which in this competition are focused on addressing challenges in a key area of healthcare including Brain Injury, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Diabetic Foot Ulcers, Medical Imaging and Outpatient Services.

From 14 companies awarded Phase 1 funding in May 2015, six have demonstrated best value and greatest technical feasibility to a panel of experts looking for innovative technologies with the highest potential value to patients and the health service. The successful companies will now be supported and fully funded to continue with prototype development and product testing.

Up to £300,000 available to help transform Mental Health care across the East Midlands

A ‘call to action’ has been issued to seek mental health innovations that have the potential to transform service user access, experience and clinical outcomes.

Mental health is a key priority for the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN) and it is estimated that there are over 1 million East Midlands adults who will experience a mental health problem in 2015, including many older adults living with cognitive impairment, dementia or depression.

East Midlands Innovation in Healthcare Awards 2015 - Winners

Innovation Awards 2015 Trophies 4Health and social care organisations from across the region have been honoured at this year’s East Midlands Innovation in Healthcare Awards.

The seven winning entries highlight the astonishing range of innovations that are improving services and saving lives throughout the region.

The awards, hosted by the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN), recognise and celebrate the work of the NHS, universities, healthcare companies, charities and other health and social care organisations to develop new, or ensure better delivery of existing healthcare services for local people.

The winners include an App to support young carers, an innovative pump that enables patients to return home more quickly following surgery, and a high-tech scanning technique that allows an autopsy to be conducted without the need for surgery.

EMAHSN stakeholder survey 2015

Results from a YouGov survey commissioned by NHS England, point to the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN) as an accessible and responsive organisation that is working collaboratively and is striving to identify and spread innovation at pace and scale.

The surveys of all 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) nationally, provided an opportunity for respondents from health, social care, higher education, local government, industry and the third sector, to feed back on their relationship with their local AHSN.

Participants were invited to comment on issues focused around the impact being made by the AHSNs, and the results will be used to understand progress, identify areas for development and good practice that can be shared between the organisations.

Health and social care under the spotlight as East Midlands awards recognise incredible innovations

The East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN) shines a light on health and social care as finalists from across the region are announced in the second East Midlands Innovation in Healthcare awards.

The shortlist highlights the astonishing range of innovations and ideas developed by frontline healthcare staff, local patients, charities, companies, GP surgeries, hospitals and universities that are transforming the health of the region’s 4.5m residents and stimulating wealth creation.

Competition has been very strong with over 100 entries submitted across six categories; a 16% increase on last year’s entries.

Local Diabetes Group get fundingCommunity and voluntary groups that provide important platforms for patients to shape local health services have received a funding boost from the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN).

The ten local ‘Patient and Public Involvement’ (PPI) groups have been awarded a total of £15,000 to help meet their running costs – supporting them to continue with their vital work to promote patient, carer and public involvement in healthcare delivery and health research across the East Midlands.

The groups exist to make sure that the experiences of patients and members of the public are at the heart of future decisions about health services. Each of the 10 groups to receive the funding focuses on a key health issue, ranging from cancer and diabetes to mental health, heart disease and dementia.

EMAHSN announces funding to improve access | school nurse text messaging services

ChatHealth image service users textingNHS healthcare teams are being offered a helping hand to introduce a multi-award winning messaging service which provides safe and secure texting between clinicians and service users.

The East Midlands Academic Health Science Network is investing more than £100,000 into the ChatHealth NHS messaging service to encourage frontline teams across the UK to improve access to healthcare using digital platforms. The funding will cover set-up of messaging programmes in a number of NHS Trusts that want to licence use of the innovative messaging service.
