Spotlight on the AHSN Network’s collective impact and future plans

A new guide to the AHSN Network is published today (Wednesday 13 June), detailing the impact to date of England’s 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs), as well as our future plans for the years ahead.
The AHSNs were first licensed by NHS England in 2013 for an initial period of five years, and in that time they have pioneered new ways to spread and adopt healthcare innovation.

World Heart Rhythm Week: Working with East Midlands’ GPs to detect Atrial Fibrillation

This week marks the Arrhythmia Alliance’s World Heart Rhythm Week (4-10), an international awareness event that this year focuses on fainting as a potential first symptom of arrhythmia (heart rhythm disorder).
Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common forms of abnormal heart rhythm and a major cause of stroke – which is the third biggest cause of premature death in the UK. People with AF are five times more likely to suffer a stroke and AF contributes to around one in every five strokes.

AHSNs relicensed as key innovation arm of the NHS

NHS England has committed to the
long term
future of England’s Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs), as part of a 10-year vision to drive health innovation and stimulate economic growth.
Today’s (24 May) NHS England Board meeting formally approved a new five year licence for the 15 AHSNs, with an option to roll this on for a further five years to 2028.

Three trusts adopt technology to transform ADHD care in the East Midlands

A pioneering project to spread the use of an innovative computerised test to support the diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has received on-going funding from three community health NHS trusts in the East Midlands region.
The Trusts’ commitment to mainstreaming the use of QbTest - an innovative computerised test for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - follows a successful 12 month demonstrator project funded by the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN).

The East Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative (PSC) is celebrating three shortlisted entries at this year’s Patient Safety Awards.
The PSC - which is hosted by the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN) – has been named a finalist for its roll out of the LPZ audit tool to care homes in the Patient Safety in the Community category and for both the LPZ tool and its Delirium project in the Care of Older People category.
