A joint project that encourages the use of more self-care skills to reduce the harm from opioids for people living with chronic non cancer pain was highly commended at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards last night.

 The project, which also involved Live Well With Pain (LWWP), Joined Up Care Derbyshire, University of Durham, St George's University Hospital & United Hospitals Birmingham was shortlisted in the Best Use of Integrated Care and Partnership Working in Patient Safety category.

HIEM Senior Improvement Lead, Kate Hardiman who worked on the project, produced a blog recently describing the whole system approach used, which has seen fewer people being prescribed high dose opioids.

Organised by the Health Service Journal (HSJ), the Patient Safety Awards celebrate the teams and individuals going above and beyond to protect patients from harm, reduce risks, and embed a culture of safety across the UK healthcare sector.
