East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN) is currently seeking a Clinical Advisor who will be responsible for the delivery of the East Midlands regional adoption and spread of a national Lipid Management and FH programme which aims to support the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

EMAHSN is part of a connected network of 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSN) across the country, each AHSN works within its local area to identify and quickly spread healthcare innovation. The Lipid Management and FH programme is one of three programmes selected for national and adoption and spread across the AHSN Network.   

The national programme aims to deliver against the NHS Long Term Plan milestones of preventing 150,000 heart attacks, strokes, and dementia cases over the next 10 years – by improving detection and management of CVD risk factors, in particular high cholesterol. 

Key deliverables for this role include:

  • To provide expert advice, clinical leadership, and support to the EMAHSN Lipid Management and FH programme.
  • To engage with the AHSN national Lipid Management and FH programme team including the national Lipid Management and FH clinical lead.
  • To support the development and implementation of a local action plan to improve CVD outcomes for the population of East Midlands focussed on lipid management and FH.To advise and co-chair the EMAHSN Lipid Management and FH programme steering group.
  • Review monthly programme reports, initiation documents and project plans advising on next steps.
  • To engage with Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), Primary Care Networks (PCNs), trusts, clinical teams and managers across different care settings to promote engagement, participation, clinical support and ownership in improving CVD prevention.
  • To engage with partners outside of the NHS across the East Midlands footprint to support the programme.
  • To champion and support the programme across the East Midlands area.
  • To undertake patient/care/public engagement to support the identification of health needs and co-produce service improvements to enhance lipid optimisation.
  • To advocate for innovations relating to CVD across the East Midlands region.
  • To support robust real world evaluation into all interventions.
