We have worked extensively with care homes over the past several years and more recently with domiciliary care teams through our managing deterioration and medicines safety work.

Health Innovation East Midlands can be commissioned to provide bespoke training for care homes and care home staff on recognising and escalating deterioration in the health of the people they care for.

Our work with care homes aims to keep residents safe and well-cared for at times of acute health deterioration. We support care homes in their use of deterioration management tools, person-centred care, quality improvement and creating a positive safety culture using the PIER approach: 

 

  • Prevention - Enhancing and maintaining health and well-being to ensure the best health.

  • Identification - Identifying when someone becomes unwell and responding as needed.

  • Escalation - Communicating people’s needs when they become unwell to access the right care from the right people.

  • Response - Responding in a timely and appropriate way when somebody’s health deteriorates.

 The East Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative supported care homes to keep connected, network and share good practice with each other through a series of ‘Connecting Together’ – East Midlands Care Home webinars designed for care home staff and managers. 

The care home webinars, typically consisted of an educational topic with a focus on sharing and learning. One of the most popular webinar elements was ‘shining a light' on good practice where care homes come together and share their learning and experience.  

The ‘Connecting Together’ care home webinars ran periodically throughout the year. Find out more about upcoming events here.
