I attended the East Midlands Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Senate in December 2022 to seek guidance on integrating PPI into an NHS England regional community stroke rehabilitation improvement and transformation programme. Senate members were generous in sharing insights and honest feedback and their feedback has significantly enriched my approach to setting up and delivering healthcare initiatives.
Their valuable suggestions have not only been incorporated into ongoing projects but have also disseminated across our team, amplifying the learning beyond my immediate scope.
Returning to the Senate in March 2024, I had the opportunity to showcase how their feedback had been integrated into my work programme, highlighting tangible examples from ongoing projects and outlining next steps.
The input of the Senate has been instrumental in shaping my approach and ensuring patient and public voices remain a central focus. As a result, I have actively encouraged my colleagues to tap into their expertise and support. In healthcare delivery, there is no substitute for lived experience, and the Senate is a fantastic resource to explore this. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Senate for their ideas and guidance.
