The Health Innovation Network has published a new impact report highlighting the collective impact of public involvement and engagement (PPIE) activity across the 15 health innovation networks in 2025/26. The report shares insights into how lived experience is shaping design, delivery and the spread of innovation.

 Meaningful PPIE is fundamental to delivering a health and care system that is equitable, effective, and responsive to the needs of the populations it serves. 

 From early-stage research and development through to implementation at scale, patient insight strengthens relevance, improves outcomes, and ensures that innovation is not only clinically effective, but also accessible and acceptable to those who need it most. 

Across the Network, PPIE activity is helping to strengthen innovation pathways, reduce health inequalities, improve relevance and adoption, and build stronger relationships with local communities and partners. 

The report features two HIEM case studies focused on engaging the public in the selection of NHS productivity innovations using lived experience and their views relating to AI technologies. In addition, to considering the barriers people from the Deaf community face when accessing healthcare. HIEM co-delivered and co-produced a webinar plus practical guidance for health professionals based on insight from real experiences.
