The report outlines how HIEM continues to play a vital role as part of England’s Health Innovation Network, helping health and care organisations to identify, test and scale innovative solutions to meet some of the NHS’s most pressing challenges.

Over the past year, HIEM’s work with health and care systems and innovators has delivered substantial benefits including:

  • Positively impacting 119,335 patients.
  • Generating £77.8 million total value against £5.4 million funding.
  • Saving 28,969 clinical appointments.
  • Releasing 72,041 hours of NHS clinical time.

Since our establishment in 2013, more than 1.75 million people have benefited from our work.

We continue to act as a broker between the NHS and innovators, contributing not only to better care but also to economic growth.

The report includes examples of innovation across health and care systems, working with healthcare innovators.

In 2025–2026 alone, across all 15 Health Innovation Networks:

  • £1.5 billion investment was secured.
  • 992 jobs were safeguarded and 541 were created.

HIEM also supported 558 companies to develop, commercialise or scale their innovations, while providing access to over 1,600 high-impact technologies through national pipelines.

Chief executive Nicole McGlennon said: “Our teams work in partnership across many stakeholders to facilitate and enable transformation. The report is a fantastic round up of all this work throughout the year, covering the broad range of support we can provide. Thank you to everyone who has helped to generate these impressive impacts – I’m looking forward to building on these with our new programmes for 2026 – 2027.”
