We welcomed more than 100 midwives and health professionals to our Safer Maternity and Neonatal Care Across the Midlands event in Birmingham last week.

Co-hosted with Health Innovation West Midlands, the packed programme focused on improving safety, outcomes and experiences for mothers, birthing people and babies.

Delegates heard from leads across the region including NHS England Regional Chief Midwife - Midlands Region, Gaynor Armstrong and service user voices, about the ongoing work to improve care in our services.

Breakout sessions in the afternoon gave attendees the choice of:

• A hands-on introduction to the intrapartum fetal deterioration tool and managing an impacted fetal head.
• A practical session applying the PIER toolkit to everyday practice to help identify deterioration in a patient’s condition early.
• Antenatal counselling through case studies and role play.
