A summary of the work we undertake to support patient safety across the region has been published.

The East Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative (EMPSC) is hosted by Health Innovation East Midlands. It is commissioned by NHS England to deliver four Safety Improvement Programmes covering Maternity and Neonatal, Medicines Safety, Systems Safety and Managing Deterioration (including Martha’s Rule).

The publication highlights the impacts these programmes are having for patients across the East Midlands, delivered through our partnership working across systems.

Highlights include:

  • Supporting 12 sites to implement Martha’s Rule, review progress and make improvements.
  • Working with maternity and neonatal services to increase the number of babies that receive all elements of the preterm perinatal optimisation care pathway.
  • Facilitating two ICS to help people with a learning disability at risk of behaviour that challenges to avoid harm from psychotropic medicines.
  • Assisting implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework nationally.
