Health Innovation East Midlands (HIEM) is delighted to welcome new members to its Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Senate.

Following recruitment in Lincoln/shire and Nottingham/shire, four members have been appointed to join the group of expert leaders.

The PPI Senate includes members with diverse backgrounds and lived experiences who can provide feedback, challenge, and champion the role of patients and the public as central to healthcare decision making and transformation.

We are delighted to welcome Betty Berthebaud, who is the new member for Lincoln/shire alongside Shanine Fasasi, Roland Malkin and Denise McLean covering the Nottingham/shire areas.

Each member brings a wide range of skills and experiences, including running a peer support group for cardiovascular patients, working with refugees from Ukraine, founding a community interest company working with diverse communities in Nottingham and working nationally on race equality projects.

The PPI Senate has members representing all five counties of the East Midlands, each bringing a unique perspective on behalf of their localities.

At their first meeting in September, the new members contributed to discussions on the government’s 10-year plan, focusing on the shift from hospital to community care and the importance of embedding the patient voice.
