    Putting the 10 Year Plan into action: Enabling transformation of healthcare through research, innovation, and life sciences

    Will Warburton is the Director of Life Sciences Policy and Strategy at NHS England, part of the Innovation, Research and Life Sciences Team, which he co-leads. The team supports the NHS, industry, patients and partners across the innovation ecosystem to collaborate to improve healthcare.

    Will has over 20 years' experience in healthcare, with a longstanding commitment to improving the spread of innovation. He was previously Managing Director of the Shelford Group, a collaboration of ten large teaching and research NHS trusts, and Director of Improvement at the Health Foundation, where he led an extensive commissioning and funding programme aiming to build knowledge and practical examples of what it takes to deliver effective improvement and innovation in the NHS. Will has also worked as Operational Director for the Centre for Health Policy at the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London, Forum Director for the World Innovation Summit for Health in Qatar, and an operational manager in the NHS. 

    Professor Nigel Brunskill

    Professor Nigel Brunskill

    Director of Research and Innovation for the University Hospitals of Leicester and University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Trust Partnership Group.

    Harnessing research and innovation to drive transformative change

    Nigel Brunskill is Consultant Nephrologist for University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust since 1997 and University of Leicester Professor of Renal Medicine since 2006.

    He is Director of Research and Innovation for University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and for the University Hospitals of Leicester/University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Trust Partnership Group. He is Director of the NIHR Leicester Clinical Research Facility. He was Director of the NIHR Leicester CRF and Leicestershire Academic Health Partners between 2019 and June 2025.

    He is Chair of the East Midlands SDE Delivery Board and Co-Chair of the UK Renal Health Data Science Research Network.

    Dr Amanda Sullivan

    Dr Amanda Sullivan

    Chief Executive, NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board

    Fit for the future: the importance of innovation in reshaping the NHS.

    Amanda is the Chief Executive for the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board. Amanda has been a proponent of integrated care, being Joint SRO of the Mid-Nottinghamshire Better Together programme between 2014 and 2018. This was a Vanguard Primary and Acute Care System (PACS) site, with an Alliance across health and local government.

    Amanda has a clinical background, working as a nurse and a midwife before moving into senior management in both acute and commissioning roles. In 2001 Amanda was awarded a PhD for research investigating decision-making during pregnancy.

    In her capacity as a consultant midwife, Amanda worked at regional and national levels. She chaired a working group on behalf of the National Screening Committee, which developed national standards for ultrasound consent in pregnancy. She has also edited midwifery text books.

 

The showcase will focus on innovations across a range of secondary and primary care themes including maternity & neonatal, mental health, neurology, cancer, nephrology, primary care access, surgical innovation and community care that are aligned to the three strategic government shifts:

  • from hospital to community,
  • from analogue to digital,
  • from sickness to prevention.

In addition to the exhibition, the agenda includes contributions from system leaders who will discuss the challenges and opportunities for health and care transformation:
