The Urgent and Emergency Care Plan 2025-2026 was published earlier this month setting out priority actions for the NHS to improve patient outcomes. 

Amongst the requirements is: "Reduce the number of patients who remain in an emergency department for over 24 hours while awaiting a mental health admission. This will provide faster care for thousands of people in crisis every month."

An independent evaluation report, commissioned by Health Innovation East Midlands showed that the Mental Health Urgent Assessment Centre in Lincolnshire could help patients be seen by a specialist service more quickly, receive better access to follow up care in the community or at home and avoid relapse.
