SBRI Healthcare, funded by NHS England and NHS Improvement has recently announced its competition 20. A funding call to develop solutions to challenges in health inequalities in maternity care and Autism and learning disabilities.
Supported by The AHSN Network and Accelerated Access Collaborative they are pleased to announce competition 20 to develop technology enabled solutions to address the following:
While the UK remains a comparatively safe place to give birth, maternity care is challenged by growing health inequalities, with women from minority ethnic groups and those living in the most socially deprived areas more likely to experience adverse outcomes of pregnancy.
Women from ethnic minority groups are more likely to die during pregnancy and childbirth and are also at increased risk of poor pregnancy outcomes including stillbirth, miscarriage, and pre-term birth.
Under the Health Inequalities in Maternity Care challenge, three categories have been identified via consultation with clinicians, nurses and midwives, as well as other stakeholders working in the provision of care across the maternity care spectrum.
The competition is open to single companies or organisations from the private, public, and third sectors, including charities. The competition runs in two phases (subject to the availability of budget in 2022/23):

Living with autism and a learning disability can be difficult for patients and their families due to significant health inequalities these communities face, including a lack of access to sufficient support and care.
Despite attempts to tackle these challenges across a range of settings and services, the pressures on healthcare systems have continued to grow. This SBRI Healthcare competition seeks innovative solutions that will tackle challenges around the early detection of autism and/or learning disabilities, and around the provision of appropriate and relevant support and care equally to patients, their families and carers.
The funding competition is open to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and organisations from the private, public and third sectors, including charities.
