The Patient and Public Involvement Senate supported by the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network are delighted to announce the launch of an East Midlands wide network for members of the public involved in health and social care – called The People’s Network.

This regional network is the first of its kind to bring people together to form a community of practice. The Network aims to attract NHS patients, social care customers, service users and family carers who are actively involved in health and care. By involvement, we mean supporting members of the public working with health and care staff to plan and deliver service improvement, research and service transformation.

Involving members of the community in healthcare has many benefits such as improved health outcomes and enhanced services. But it can also be isolating and frustrating when people feel unable to find ways they can make a difference. The People’s Network aims to support individuals on their involvement journey so that they can help to transform and improve services and outcomes for local people and communities.

We welcome and value the diversity of perspectives that people can bring to the Network and would like to encourage people from all backgrounds and communities to join us.

The benefits of joining the Network include opportunities to:

• Connect with other people involved in health and social care from across the East Midlands
• Share good practice, learn from each other and develop new skills
• Access peer support and improve confidence
• Engage with health and care staff to ensure people and communities are at the front and centre of transformation and improvements

We welcome participants from all communities. We encourage people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities and people with disabilities, who are often under-represented, to join us.

People from the Deaf community are encouraged to attend and British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters will be available for the duration of the event.
