East Midlands Academic Health Science Network and West Midlands Academic Health Science Network are working alongside East Midlands and West Midlands ADASS (Association of Directors of Adult Social Services) to host an Innovation Exchange event for health and social care professionals, to look at different approaches to managing deterioration in people with a learning disability living at home.

The Learning Disability Mortality Review (LeDer) programme and longstanding reports provide evidence that signs of health deterioration are not always detected promptly. As a result, evidence shows that people with learning disabilities die prematurely from conditions that could have been prevented or amenable to treatment.

A virtual Innovation Exchange event will be held on 14 July 2021 to bring together health and care professionals to hear from people with learning disabilities and their families about their experiences of becoming unwell. The event will highlight innovative approaches already in place and provide insights into digital technologies with the potential to support people to live happier healthier lives.

Following the event, EMAHSN will offer funding to support the real-world evaluation of digital innovations. We will provide the opportunity for commissioners and/or providers of care to work with digital suppliers to test their products and services, providing the evidence of the impact that will support spread and adoption to other care settings.

We are calling for innovators who have the potential to assist and address the following challenges:

  • Provide support to individuals with learning disabilities living within their own homes to live healthier, happier lives
  • Your innovation and or service can be used by individuals with learning disabilities and /or family members, carers and personal assistants
  • Can detect, monitor and escalate deteriorating health and wellbeingShare health and wellbeing information with health and care professionals

If you believe you have innovation that can support, find out more about the challenges and key considerations for innovators on the West Midlands AHSN Meridian Platform. Submissions close 5pm Wednesday 30 June 2021.
