More than £400k has been made available to three projects across the East Midlands to support the increased adoption of NICE approved medicines into everyday practice, targeting the clinical priorities of lipid and asthma management.

With support from East Midlands AHSN, the funding will support programmes led by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Chesterfield and Dronfield Primary Care Network and Lakeside Healthcare Group.

The Rapid Uptake Products (RUP) programme supports health organisations to adopt and spread NICE approved, proven innovations that target clinical priorities set out in the NHS Long Term Plan. The products that will be supported with the PTF funding during 2021/22 are:

• Lipid Management, a NICE-endorsed clinical pathway to help reduce cholesterol
• Asthma Biologics, a treatment for severe Asthma

EMAHSN, Head of Medicine Pathways and Safety, Kate Dawson said: “We are delighted that three of our East Midlands projects were awarded the Pathway Transformation Funding (PTF) and particularly to have been so successful on our bids to improve lipid management to help reduce cholesterol and reduce the numbers of deaths from heart disease in the East Midlands.

“We are also looking forward to working with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust which received funding to help increase the number of patients who can access Asthma Biologics – a treatment for severe asthma.”

Projects will commence in September and run for 12 months, with formal evaluations being shared in Oct 2022.
