Four exciting companies will receive specialist tailored support to help spread their digital health innovations within the NHS through our East Midlands Digital Health Accelerator programme.
The Accelerator programme is designed to help companies with worthwhile digital health innovations that have the potential to have a positive impact on the health and care system and the wider economy. Companies are supported with the aim to further the spread of their digital health innovations within the East Midlands and wider, with a tailored package of expert guidance, advice and support. Support is adapted to the need of the business and has included one-to-one support and coaching, masterclasses and opportunities to showcase products to NHS decision-makers and influencers.
EMAHSN is one of 15 AHSNs nationwide, which operate as the innovation arm of the NHS. Commissioned by NHS England and NHS Improvement and the Office for Life Sciences to spread health and care innovation and fuel economic growth. Amongst other activities, this includes enabling the most effective digital health solutions to reach more patients faster – working with patients, industry and the health and care sector to make this happen. The AHSNs work with healthcare innovators to understand which products and ideas could provide value and give expert guidance to help them make their offer as good as it could be – whether that is advice around further product development, evidence generation or, if the solution is ready, brokering connections with relevant health and care colleagues.
The East Midlands Digital Health Accelerator recognises companies that have a solution, which could potentially have a positive impact on challenges faced by the health and care system. Four new companies have been welcomed to the scheme this year following a rigorous recruitment process. The companies joining the Accelerator in 2021 include:
Sapien is a remote health coaching solution that helps patients before and after surgery. Currently, patients receive minimal support between hospital appointments, which leads to poor outcomes. Sapien fills these gaps in care by providing expert health coaching before and after surgery. Through the Sapien solution patients have access to 1-on-1 health accredited coaching, on-demand content to support their journey (from exercise plans to recipes) and as they advance, they have access to insightful health metrics to help improve their self-management skills.
Data collection from patients (for diagnosis and treatment) is a very manual process requiring multiple appointments, taking up clinical time and resource. This creates bottlenecks and delays to treatment. Remcare allows remote collection of clinical data and communication with patients. Algorithms on the platform analyse the risk profile of patients throughout the care journey, alerts clinicians and helps in automating clinical pathways.
Unphased’s innovation Consentify is a digital solution designed to streamline the patient participation and consent process in clinical trials. The Consentify digital platform offers an independent space for patients to make their informed consent decision at their own pace and in their own home, building confidence and trust in the first step of a clinical trial.
Memory Lane Games ORCHA-certified apps enable families to instantly turn their memories into personalised cognitively stimulating activities, which aim to provide mental stimulation and personalised care for dementia patients and carers.

Sapien has made great progress since our incorporation in May 2020, the solution is being deployed via two NHS trusts, which will enable us to further demonstrate clinical and economic impact. We also hope that working with the AHSN will provide wider access to clinicians, patient and public involvement expertise and allow us the opportunity to learn from the experiences of other innovators on the scheme.”
