It was an absolute privilege this week to meet and speak with third year and post graduate physiotherapy students at Nottingham City Hospital. What an amazing bunch – enthusiastic, upbeat, committed to a career in the NHS and totally up for the challenges that lie ahead.
We were speaking about leadership and discussed the current challenges facing health services, with a particular focus on:

• Maintaining personal motivation
• Authentic leadership: being yourself at work
• Challenges faced by Black and minority ethnic staff in the NHS.

The depth and breadth of the discussion was excellent and the debate open and honest. I also had great fun!

My overriding impressions were of positivity and energy, and also hope for the future – I was left with a clear sense that the NHS will benefit from this group of professionals.
