People with a Learning Disability often have poorer physical and mental health than people from other communities, and face barriers to accessing health and care services to keep them healthy. This means that too many people with a learning disability are dying earlier than they should. The LeDeR Action from learning report 2022/2023 states of all the reported deaths of people with a learning disability, 42% were avoidable, and caused by conditions that can be avoided through effective prevention or treatment.
In this webinar you will hear from Robyn Lees, Lived Experience Facilitator from IMPACT* and Deborah Wilson, Patient Public Involvement and Engagement Officer at Health Innovation East Midlands. Robyn and Deborah will provide some practical tips on how to engage with people from this community and how to use the ideas and experiences gained to deliver more effective and inclusive services, research, improvements, and innovations.
This session will be of interest to people working or volunteering in health and social care, engagement practitioners, researchers, academics, or anyone wanting to find out more on how to engage with adults with a learning disability. It will not cover clinical issues or interventions. The focus is on engagement approaches and members attending will receive our recently developed accompanying Top Tips Guide.
