Involving patients in innovation and transformation

Patient and Public Involvement and leadership in innovation

We are experts at involving patients and members of the public in the co-design and production of innovation and transformation, and all of our programmes are underpinned by service user input.

We direct our expertise to support healthcare partners and commercial innovators, offering advice and guidance to ensure patients and communities are listened to and are involved in health service innovation and transformation.

Our support ranges from training courses and ’how to’ guides, to a free newsletter and access to a network of experienced patient and citizen leaders.

Connected 120 community members with the health and care system providing valuable feedback on remote monitoring, electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD), and co-production during the COVID-19 pandemic. We also supported community representation in mental health communities of practice – including suicide prevention, sexual safety and restrictive practice.

Co-delivered training to 150 public contributors and staff working in mental health services.

Next Steps

We will launch an involvement resource online hub, which will host a suite of best practice resources across many topics to support organisations and patient leaders. Our annual Public Involvement Fund for 2022, will focus on social care and projects that involve the public in health inequalities and NHS Core20PLUS5 priorities. We also aim to launch The People’s Network, a new initiative to expand health system access to people with lived experience across clinical areas.
