Piloting and evaluating innovation to improve exercise, leg strength, recovery and rehabilitation in our hospitals
We have supported S-Press in their innovation journey to further evaluate their portable, therapeutic-level leg-strengthening device, used in hospital based exercise and rehabilitation.
We worked with the innovator to offer guidance on which metrics to use to evaluate the success of use in the NHS and to carry out a benefits mapping workshop to identify potential benefits and drawbacks as well as mitigating factors.
This workshop set the groundwork for a demonstrator study – gathering real world evidence of their innovation being used in Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
HIEM is part-funding and evaluating the study and results will be reported in autumn 2024. Early indications are positive. Eight devices have been deployed in the trust across four community in-patient wards with positive feedback to date. One patient who had been told they may never walk again, did so well in regaining mobility that S-Press has been invited to speak at the hospital’s Trauma and Orthopaedic meeting in September to tell them more about the project.
