We received almost 100 award entries across the six categories, and the shortlist highlights the truly astonishing range of innovations that are improving services and saving lives throughout the East Midlands.

Innovation is central to the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network: we were established to identify great ideas and spread them throughout our region and beyond - making sure that if something works well it is made available to everyone, irrespective of where they live in the East Midlands.
Our first full year has been incredibly busy and immensely rewarding as we have worked with health sector organisations, universities, social care, voluntary agencies and industry to address issues such as stroke, diabetes, liver disease, mental health, cancer and frailty.
Our innovation awards were launched to identify great ideas that address the health challenges in the East Midlands, and to showcase the work we knew was out there, but maybe hadn't heard about until now.
I was particularly pleased at the great response to the call for entries from teams working on the frontline: from my own experience I know that people working directly with patients are often the best placed to identify the really knotty problems and creative solutions to improve services for patients.
It is clear that the spirit of innovation is alive and well across our health and social care systems.
